ASIS developed the APP certification to recognise those relatively new to the security industry with a Board certification. It is intended for those with one to four years of security management experience.

Physical Security Professional (PSP) Exam Preparation Boot Camp

The ASIS PSP® qualification enhances career prospects by demonstrating knowledge and experience of threat assessment and risk analysis; integrated physical security systems; and the appropriate identification, implementation and ongoing evaluation of security measures.

Core content

How you will study: boot camp class 

Days one and two: explanation of the timetable of study and approach required from learners, followed by familiarisation with the learning domains and study materials.

Days three and four: explanation and discussion of the different domains, followed by consolidation and testing of learners’ knowledge to identify where further personal revision should be focused.

Day five: completion of mock exams followed by feedback and discussion.

Upon registering your place, you will also join the online learning platform which hosts the study materials. There are five modules, each relating to core content from the ASIS PSP reference materials.

About the exam

To gain the post-nominals ‘PSP’, you must sit and pass the exam, which is taken at a Prometric test centre. The PSP® exam comprises a maximum 140 multiple choice questions on three domains identified by physical security professionals as the key categories of physical security management.

Please note that costs relating to the PSP® exam are not included in the course fees and it is your responsibility to apply for and schedule the exam.

The five-day exam preparation class is a review of the ASIS CPP materials, alongside practical advice and support to give you the best possible chance when you sit the ASIS CPP exam.

The ASIS CPP® qualification enhances career opportunities by demonstrating management skills in seven key security domains. It is one of the most widely recognised security management qualifications in the world. CPP accreditation provides employers, colleagues and peers with professional assurance of the holder’s advanced knowledge.

How you will study: boot-camp class (5 days)

Pre-course, you will access the online learning platform. Here, you’ll go through the course which guides you to the relevant parts of the CPP POA materials. You can complete mock exams, practice questions, have receive full explanation of the terminology within the materials. This helps to prepare you for the 5 day boot-camp.

 

Days one and two: explanation of the timetable of study and approach, followed by familiarisation with the learning domains and study materials.

Days three and four: explanation and discussion of the different domains, followed by consolidation and testing of existing knowledge to identify where further personal revision should be focused.

Day five: completion of mock exams followed by feedback and discussion.

You will be directed to the relevant parts within the CPP materials, and then self-assessment exams will test your understanding of the material. You will submit mock-exams which are reviewed by the course tutor, who feeds back on areas to study in more detail.

The CPP® exam is taken over 4 hours, with a maximum 225 multiple choice questions. Questions are based on the seven domains identified by certified protection professionals as the key categories of security management.

Please note that the exam fee is not included in this training package. You are responsible for booking your exam, and sourcing a copy of the ASIS CPP Protection of Assets and Standards & Guidelines.

Eligibility criteria

Seven years of security experience, at least three  years of which shall have been in responsible charge of a security function

OR

5 to 6 years of security management experience depending on education level achieved and three years of responsible charge of a security function.

AND

  • Have been employed full-time in a security-related role

Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO)

This course will provide company security officers with the training necessary to meet their obligations under the international ship and port facility security (ISPS) code. The course is based on practical approaches in order to interpret and implement measures which will help to ensure compliance with the maritime security requirements.
The course provides a rapid and comprehensive program that enables shipping and marine companies to meet the requirements of the ISPS Code for security on board their ships. Participants will gain awareness of the ISPS code responsibilities for a port and its facilities. As a result, attendees will understand their obligations to comply with port facility regulations and will be more observant and able to inform port facility security officers of potential threats they have noticed.

Course Objectives
Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:
• Get certified as a “Certified Port Facility Security Officer”
• Apply the responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer (PFSOs) as per the guidelines of maritime security policy and in accordance with the IMO-ISPS code

API 780 Security Risk Assessment Methodology

API developed the security risk assessment (SRA) methodology (API 780 Standard) as a universal approachfor assessing security risk at petroleum and petrochemical industries. The information contained herein has been developed in cooperation with government and industry and is intended to help oil and gas companies, petroleum refiners, pipeline operators, petrochemical manufacturers, and other segments of the petroleum industry or other similar industries maintain and strengthen their corporate
security through a structured and standardized SRA methodology. This course contains a standard methodology and guidance for use including examples. This course describes a methodology that can be applied to a broad range of assets and operations beyond the typical operating facilities of the industry. This includes other assets containing hazardous materials such as chemical, refining and petrochemical manufacturing operations, pipelines and transportation operations including truck, marine and rail. It also can be used at a wide variety of non-hydrocarbon types of assets and is applicable as a general purpose SRA methodology. The methodology is suitable for assisting with compliance to regulations, such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Chemical Facility Anti-terrorism Standards, 6 CFR Part 27.

Course Objectives
Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:
• Get certified as a “Certified Security Risk Assessor (SRA)”
• Define the terms, acronyms, abbreviations and symbols of security risk assessment
• Discuss general concepts of SRA covering security risk assessment and security management principles, risk definition for SRA and key variables, likelihood, consequences, threat, attractiveness and vulnerability
• Apply SRA approach including the concept and relationship to security risk management process, conducting and reviewing the SRA, validation and prioritization of risks and risk-based screening
• Employ proper planning in conducting SRA as well as gather, review and integrate information
• Identify the sources of information and the information needs
• Locate, collect and review required information
• Analyze previous incidents and conduct a site inspection
• Gather threat information using the various steps of API SRA
• Recognize forms and worksheets, SRA supporting data requirements and various examples of the SRA process
